12 August-CNS:-Legal Metrology Department conducted 2664 market inspections in the valley during the month of July, 2021 in which 257 erring traders were booked for violation of various provisions of Legal Metrology Laws.A penal sum of Rs 6.20 lacs was also realized from the defaulters. The nature of offences was short-weighment / Short- deliveries/ over-charging on pre-packaged commodities, non- production of documents of weighing and measuring devices etc.Besides,5593 commercial weights and measures were verified in Inspectorate laboratories for which a stamping-fee of Rs 4.17 lacs was collected.The department received 11 consumer complaints all of which were redressed. In addition to this, the department conducted inspection/verification of 10 road weigh-bridges in the districts of Srinagar/ Budgam/ Pulwama/ Anantnag to ascertain their accuracies using high-tech mobile-kit.(CNS)
