Man Arrested for Sacrilege at Srinagar Mosque: Police

Srinagar,29-Oct; A man involved in a sacrilege incident in Nowhatta area of Srinagar was arrested here, police said on Saturday.In a statement issued, Police spokesman said that an incident of sacrilege took place in Khan Masjid Gojwara, Nowhatta wherein a person threw Quran Sharif and some other item(s) into water. The whole act was caught on CCTV cameras. The statement reads that as the incident caused public outcry, Nowhatta police station under the supervision of Raja Zuhaib, SP North took cognisance of the matter and multiple teams were formed to catch the culprit.“Raids were conducted throughout the night as soon as the accused was identified, in wee hours, the accused namely Irshad Ahmad Mir S/o Mohd Sultan Mir of Maloora, Srinagar was arrested”, it reads.The statement further reads that Case under FIR no 100/2022 under section 153A of IPC is registered in Nowhatta PS. During initial investigation it came to fore that he was involved in a similar incident earlier as well, an incident that happened under the jurisdiction of Safakadal PS last year.Prima facie the accused person seems to be of unsound mind.Further investigation in the case is underway.“Public is requested to bring to notice of police any additional fact and also to report all such incidents”, statement adds
