Srinagar, 23-Feb : Former Chief Minister and Democratic Azad Party (DAP) chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad on Thursday urged the UT admin to postpone the imposition of property tax for a few years till the economic situation in the union territory improves.Speaking to reporters in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, Azad said the J&K is yet to overcome the losses it suffered due to militancy in the last 3 decades.“We have an ever increasing unemployment rate, struggling businesses and an extremely poor economic climate here. There is no person across the valley who has not suffered losses. So, in such a situation, when we are taking land from them, increasing electricity charges, we are not in a position to pay property tax”,Azad said.
