South Kashmir Sumo drivers protest in Srinagar Demand immediate release of payment

Srinagar, 13-Sep; Sumo drivers from South Kashmir, who donated their vehicles to the administration during the BDC / DDC elections, staged a protest in Srinagar demanding immediate release of more than Rs 4 crore owed to them.According to under the banner of South Kashmir Sumo transport Association, dozens of sumo drivers from Anantnag appeared in Srinagar on Monday and told media persons that in DDC and BDC elections held on November 26, 2020, 425, on the request of ARTO Anantnag vehicles including Sumo Tavera, Innova etc. Were hired by admin for election process however no payment was released to them.Shabir Ahmed, General Secretary, said that despite the passage of eight months, they have not been paid the amount of Rs. 4.25 crore which is due to the district administration. He added that they were exhausted after visiting every official in the district and today were forced to protest in Srinagar.After registering the protest here, we hope concerned authorities will repay the outstanding amount of poor drivers.‘’If payment is not released within one week, sumo service in south Kashmir will be shut down”, he added.(CNS)
