Fines upto Rs 10 k for violators; Rs 5k cash reward, promotion for officials enforcing ban

JAMMU, Feb 17: In yet another revolutionary move Jammu Mayor, Rajinder Sharma has taken a strict note of the use of poly-bags in the city and has announced strict enforcement of ban on the use of these bags below 120 microns from March 1 this year with heavy fines to the violators and rewards to the officials enforcing the ban.In a meeting here on Friday the Mayor specifically mentioned that water level in Jammu is continuously falling as a layer of polythene has deposited below the surface of ground.“Ensure strict ban on use of poly-bags below 120 micron from March 1 in Jammu and don’t hesitate in taking punitive action against the violators who-so-ever they may be,” Mayor Rajinder Sharma said in the meeting adding: “On violation of the ban JMC will slap a fine of Rs. 500 to the consumers, Rs. 5000 to the shopkeepers/vendors and Rs. 10,000 to the JMC Councilor if they were found violating the ban.”The meeting was attended by chairman Sanitation Committee of JMC, Arun Khanna; chairman Swachch Bharat Committees of JMC, Gopal Gupta; Commissioner JMC, Rahul Yadav; Secretary JMC; Joint Commissioner Health and Sanitation JMC, Kulbhushan Khajuria; Health Officers of JMC; Superintendent of Police (SP), Kulbir Handa from Police Department; a Dy.SP rank officer from Government Railway Police; Secretary Pollution Control Board (PCB) and officers from State Taxes Department.All those present in the meeting were urged to participate in anti-poly bags’ campaign with enthusiasm as use of these bags has badly affected our environment.
